Biography

Mishal Husain was born in England in 1973 to Pakistani parents, and her childhood was marked by a unique blend of cultural influences, as she grew up in both the Middle East and the United Kingdom. Her interest in journalism was sparked in 1991 during an internship at a local English-language Pakistani daily, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become a reporter, covering stories in countries such as Pakistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Georgia.

Fluent in Russian, Husain also taught English in Moscow during her stay in the former Soviet Republic. By 1995, having graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Law and a strong interest in international law and human rights, Miss Husain went on to earn her Master's degree at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Mishal Husain's television journalism career began at Bloomberg Television, where her on-air presence and professionalism caught the attention of the BBC, leading to her joining the network in 1998 as a producer. She soon transferred to the Economics and Business Unit, covering a range of business-related topics.

Her first experience as a news anchor came in May 2000, when she hosted the Singapore-based BBC show "Asia Business Report." She later co-anchored "World Business Report" in 2001 with Patrick O'Connell, earning widespread acclaim for her reporting on the September 11th attacks. This achievement led to her being appointed as the anchor of "BBC World News" in November 2001, a position she held until the spring of 2004.

Today, Miss Husain is a prominent figure in international journalism, hosting the PBS program "Wide Angle" with James Rubin, while continuing her work with the BBC.
