Nina Baden-Semper, a British actress of Trinidadian descent, was born in 1945. She is most notable for her role as Barbie Reynolds in the controversial 1970s sitcom LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR, which aired on Thames Television and co-starred Rudolph Walker.
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Baden-Semper began her career as a dancer before transitioning to acting, a profession that has spanned over 40 years. She has appeared in numerous radio, television, film, and theatre productions, touring worldwide with various plays.
Throughout her extensive stage career, Baden-Semper has taken on a wide range of roles, from classical dramatic works such as The Bacchae by Euripides, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme by Moliere, and The Blacks by Jean Genet, to modern thrillers like Wait Until Dark and Stepping Out, as well as comedy roles.
In addition to her stage work, Baden-Semper has had a successful television career, presenting children's programmes and Morning Worship for the BBC, as well as making numerous guest appearances on quizzes, talks, and panel shows nationally and internationally.
Baden-Semper has also explored her musical talents, releasing two single tracks and an album, and even rapping on the So Solid Crew video. Her television appearances have included character parts, such as her role in the ill-fated Crossroads revival in 2002, as well as a guest spot in the Doctor Who audio adventure Memory Lane in 2006.
In 2005, she portrayed Mary Seacole at a Mary Seacole Bicentenary exhibition at the Florence Nightingale Museum. Throughout her career, Baden-Semper has received numerous accolades, including the Joint Television Award and Outstanding Female Personality, and was the subject of the ITV programme This Is Your Life on March 12, 1975.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry, Baden-Semper was awarded the Scarlet Ibis Award by the Trinidad & Tobago High Commission in London, UK, for meritorious service.
