The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House has a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1946 following the reopening of the Opera House after World War II. This esteemed ensemble has been an integral part of the Royal Opera House's performances ever since, providing musical accompaniment to nearly all productions on the Main Stage, under the direction of Antonio Pappano, Music Director of The Royal Opera, and Koen Kessels, Music Director of The Royal Ballet.
In addition to its role in supporting the ballet and opera companies, the Orchestra also presents occasional concerts, featuring a range of repertoire and showcasing its versatility and artistry. One of its most beloved traditions is the annual series of performances at the Royal Opera House, which are conducted by Pappano and feature a diverse range of works.
Beyond its home at the Royal Opera House, the Orchestra has also had the opportunity to perform at numerous prestigious venues around the world, including Birmingham Symphony Hall, Cadogan Hall, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and on tour with The Royal Opera in Japan. These engagements have allowed the Orchestra to share its unique sound and style with audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds, further cementing its reputation as one of the world's leading orchestras.
