At the age of 46, Whyte's dream of becoming an actor finally came true when he landed a role in the 1953 film "The King of the Khyber Rifles". He continued to impress with his acting abilities, starring in notable productions such as "Beau Geste" (1966) and "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1956),alongside Tyrone Power.
However, it was his role in the popular American television series "Peyton Place" (1964) that brought him the most recognition.
