Peter Fitzgerald is a renowned director and producer who has made a significant impact in the film and television industry with his work on documentaries centered around classic cinema and the LGBTQ+ experience.
In 2018, his documentary "Beyond Mr. Smith" premiered, which delves into the life of gay Beyond Baroque founder George Drury Smith. The film earned the Best Documentary Short Subject - World Cinema award at the Amsterdam International Film Festival. Two years later, his documentary "Butch Please" was released, which explores gay masculinity at the 2019 International Mr. Leather weekend. The film won Fitzgerald the Best Documentary Short award at the Cinekink Film Festival in 2022. He is currently working on his latest project, The Sisters Film, which focuses on The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and their recent controversy with the LA Dodgers.
Fitzgerald's journey in the entertainment industry began with his acting debut in Broadway's A Chorus Line. He then leveraged his extensive knowledge of film to executive produce Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's That's Entertainment! III. He went on to direct pioneering archival film documentaries, Midnight Cowboy Revisited and West Side Stories for MGM/UA.
Fitzgerald transitioned to Turner Classic Movies, where he created notable specials such as Joan Crawford: The Ultimate Movie Star, Destination Hitchcock: The Making-of North By Northwest, and The Age of Believing - The Disney Live Action Classics. At Warner Bros., he produced numerous cinema-related DVD special features, including What a Glorious Feeling: The Making-of Singin' in the Rain, On The Avenue - Easter Parade, A Life In Words & Music, and the Cole Porter in Hollywood series.
Fitzgerald has also taught documentary studies at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center and currently resides in West Hollywood, CA.
