Biography

Petr Čepek, a highly acclaimed and esteemed Czech thespian, enjoyed a long-standing association with The Drama Club in Prague, serving as a prominent and influential figure within the organization. His impressive and distinguished cinematic career reached its pinnacle with the film Faust, a critically acclaimed production skillfully directed by the renowned Czech surrealist, Jan Švankmajer.

Long before Čepek's illustrious acting career took off, he had the privilege of attending the esteemed Academy of Performing Arts, DAMU, alongside a talented pool of Czech actors who would later become prominent figures in the industry.

As a student at DAMU, Čepek honed his craft and laid the foundation for his future success. Following his graduation, he commenced his professional journey at Ostrava's first theater, the prestigious DPB, where he remained a valued member of the troupe until 1965.

In the year 1965, a pivotal moment in the career of the renowned Czech theatre director, Čepek, marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with his fellow colleagues at Prague's esteemed Činoherní Klub. This union would ultimately lead to the creation of a plethora of groundbreaking theatre productions that would leave an indelible mark on the world of performing arts. Among these iconic productions, several notable adaptations stood out, including the masterful reinterpretation of Dostoevsky's timeless classic, Crime and Punishment, and the ingenious reimagining of Gogol's satirical masterpiece, Revizor, or The Government Inspector.

In the latter half of the 1980s, the accomplished individual, Čepek, redirected his attention towards the realm of politics, becoming an integral part of various rallies and high-level negotiations.

Subsequently, he made the decision to return to the esteemed Academy of Performing Arts, commonly referred to as DAMU, with the intention of imparting his extensive knowledge and experience to the upcoming generation of performers.

This marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, as he dedicated himself to teaching and mentoring, a pursuit that would continue until his untimely passing in the year 1994.

In a deeply moving and poignant tribute, Čepek was posthumously acknowledged for his remarkable dual performance in the renowned film Faust, directed by the esteemed Jan Švankmajer.
