Rebecka Johnston is a Swedish actor, renowned for her captivating performance as Ulrika in Ari Aster's critically acclaimed film Midsommar, alongside Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Vilhelm Blomgren, and Liv Mjönes.
Born and raised in the small Swedish town of Lindesberg, music played a significant role in her life from an early age, with Rebecka learning to sing and play the piano, as well as the accordion. At the age of 16, she discovered classical music, particularly classical singing, which would later become a defining aspect of her artistic journey.
Rebecka's musical talents led her to the Hungarian conservatoire Etud, where she was accepted and subsequently relocated to Budapest. This marked the beginning of her acting career, as she was soon headhunted by a casting agency for a 7-day role in a commercial. Despite having no prior acting experience, director Zsombor Dyga was impressed by her work and offered her a role in his first English-speaking feature, Run to Ground, a year later.
With a natural ear for music, Rebecka also possesses a remarkable ability for languages, speaking Swedish, English (RP and standard American),Hungarian, German, and some Italian and French. After completing her opera singing studies in Hungary, Germany, and Austria, including a Bachelor's degree at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, Rebecka was accepted into The Associated Studios Opera program, where she was introduced to improvisation theatre for the first time.
This experience led to her being cast in her first Hollywood production, Ron Howard's Inferno, which instilled in her the confidence to focus more on acting. In 2019, she landed the role of Ulrika in Ari Aster's Midsommar, a film that has since become a cult classic.
Since then, Rebecka has featured in several prominent productions, including The Alienist, The Ex-Wife, Dance First, and Fight or Flight, the latter two set to be released in 2023. She is currently studying the Chubbuck technique with Adam Davenport at The International Acting Studio.
In her free time, Rebecka is an avid enthusiast of boxing and Thai boxing, having qualified as a personal trainer at The Academy in Sweden. She is also a certified PADI advanced scuba diver.
