Richard Dempsey's illustrious training took place at the esteemed Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has had the privilege of gracing the West End stage in a multitude of productions, including Frank in Dr Strangelove, Sondheim's Old Friends, Paul Crouch in Tammy Faye, and Hopkins in Made In Dagenham in concert.
His extensive repertoire also includes the original West End productions of Into The Woods, Fame, and Dirty Dancing, where he brought to life the characters of Jack, Nick, and Neil respectively. Dempsey has also had the opportunity to play Mr. Bucket in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Quince in Michael Grandage's A Midsummer Nights Dream, as well as Don Quixote in the RSC/West End production.
Beyond the West End, Dempsey has appeared in various other productions, including A Midsummer Nights Dream and The Winters Tale, where he took on the roles of Titania and Hermione respectively. He has also had the privilege of performing in Henry V with Propeller/Hampstead and The Merchant Of Venice at BAM New York. Additionally, he has appeared in Ugly in Honk, Burn, Citizenship for The National Theatre, Just So, Out Of This World, and Damsels in Distress at The Chichester Festival Theatre, as well as Strictly Ballroom at WYP/Toronto.
In London, Dempsey has performed in various productions, including Victor/Victoria at the Southwark Playhouse, The Cocktail Party at the Coronet, and Home Chat at the Finborough Theatre. He has also appeared in Rothschild & Sons at the Park Theatre.
In addition to his stage work, Dempsey has also had a successful career in TV and film, with credits including My Policeman, 1917, Genius, Casualty, Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, Doc Martin, Island At War, Crime Traveller, Sherlock Holmes, and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for the BBC and Peter.
