Following his graduation, he actively pursued opportunities within the city's vibrant experimental theater scene, as well as the realm of comedy clubs, which provided a platform for him to hone his craft and showcase his unique talents.
As his passion for physical comedy continued to grow, Richard embarked on a remarkable journey, touring the country as a featured clown with the esteemed Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. This iconic institution, renowned for its mesmerizing performances and grand spectacles, offered Richard the opportunity to don the traditional attire of a clown, including the iconic grease paint, and entertain audiences nationwide with his impressive antics and comedic prowess.
Richard's innate passion for creative expression eventually compelled him to bid farewell to his clown persona and don a black hood, marking a pivotal moment in his artistic journey as he joined Hudson Vagabond Puppets.
Richard embarked on a thrilling new chapter of his journey, transporting himself to the captivating continent of Europe. It was there that he had the esteemed privilege of collaborating with an esteemed Italian circus, further honing his skills and expanding his artistic horizons. This remarkable experience ultimately led him to co-found the groundbreaking international performance collective, Misery Loves Company. This visionary ensemble, born from the creative synergy of its members, seamlessly merged the disciplines of dynamic physicality, enchanting puppetry, and thought-provoking theatrical investigation to craft truly one-of-a-kind and mesmerizing performances that left audiences in awe.
Richard's European escapades not only led to a string of appearances in local and visiting U.S. films, but also cemented his status as a regular fixture at the renowned Prague-based action movie factory, North American Pictures. In addition, his versatility as a performer continued to shine through as he remained a stalwart presence on the downtown NYC and regional stages, as well as on the big and small screens, showcasing his impressive range and adaptability.
