Robin Weigert is an American actress, primarily known for her television roles. She was born in 1969 in Washington D.C. to a Jewish family. Her parents, Wolfgang Oscar Weigert and Dionne Laufman, were both involved in the arts, with her father being a psychiatrist.
Weigert was educated at Brandeis University, a private research university in Massachusetts. She graduated in 1991 at the age of 22, and then enrolled in the Graduate Acting Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Weigert began her career as a theatrical actress in New York City, before moving to Los Angeles to pursue more opportunities. She started her television career with small roles in shows such as "Law & Order" and "NYPD Blue".
Her breakthrough role came in 2004 when she played Martha Jane "Calamity Jane" Canary in the Western television series "Deadwood". Her performance earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Weigert has since appeared in a range of films, including "Loggerheads", "The Good German", and "Synecdoche, New York". She has also had recurring roles in television shows such as "Sons of Anarchy" and "Jessica Jones".
In 2015, Weigert joined the cast of the animated television series "Transformers: Robots in Disguise", providing the voice of the villainous Scatterspike. She has also appeared in the British mini-series "Fearless" and the dramatic television series "Big Little Lies".
In 2018, Weigert played the role of Verena Baptist in the black comedy mini-series "Dietland", and from 2018 to 2019, she played the recurring role of Jamie Hudson in the espionage-themed series "Berlin Station".
Weigert returned to her role as Calamity Jane in the 2019 Western television film "Deadwood: The Movie", and continues to be a popular character actress, with regular appearances in television.
