Roger Lim, a multifaceted individual, was born and raised in the vibrant city of San Francisco, California. His early life was marked by a unique blend of athletic and artistic pursuits, which would later become the foundation for his diverse career in the entertainment industry.
Lim's foray into filmmaking began with his AmerAsianFilms Trilogy, a series of features that drew heavily from his own personal experiences and relationships. The trilogy, comprising Not So Young (2013),Young American Dream (2013),and Young Again (2025),delves into the complexities of his baseball journey and its lasting impact on his life.
Before turning to filmmaking, Lim had a promising baseball career, which was marked by both triumph and tragedy. As a junior, he helped his high school team, Lowell High, secure their first-ever playoff victory at Candlestick Park. However, his senior year was marred by a career-threatening rotator cuff injury, which forced him to undergo extensive rehabilitation.
Undeterred, Lim walked on to the University of San Francisco's baseball team as a freshman, where he eventually transferred to Cal State East Bay to start in left field. His collegiate baseball career was marked by stints with various teams, including the University of San Francisco and semi-pro teams around California.
After relinquishing his final year of eligibility, Lim returned to the University of San Francisco to earn his Bachelor's degree in Psychology. His experiences in baseball, however, continued to shape his life, as he garnered tryouts and attention from Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, and Major League Scouting Bureau camps.
Lim's transition to acting was sparked by his experience as a stand-in for Jackie Chan on the film Rush Hour 2 (2001). He soon found himself working behind the camera, studying the meticulous approach of director Brett Ratner. Around the same time, he landed a role in Vanilla Sky (2001),opposite Tom Cruise and Kurt Russell, although his scene ultimately did not make the final cut.
Lim's breakthrough role came when he appeared in the television series Alias (2001),opposite Jennifer Garner. He has since appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Too Old to Die Young (2019) on Amazon Prime Video, opposite Miles Teller, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.
In 2023, Lim is set to star in the upcoming film Stealing Home, a semi-autobiographical drama that chronicles his college baseball journey and his struggles with identity, hate, and ageism. In addition to his work in film and television, Lim continues to appear in commercials, public service announcements, and print ads, having worked on over 150 campaigns to date.
Lim's most ambitious project to date is a passion project, a survival drama that explores themes of life, love, and mortality.
