Ruth Pointer, the eldest member of the renowned soul and R&B group The Pointer Sisters, was born on March 19, 1946, in Oakland, California. With a rich musical heritage, Ruth's formal vocal training began as the director of the junior choir at her priest-father Elton Pointer's church, The Church of God.
Before joining The Pointer Sisters in December 1972, Ruth worked as a keypunch operator and married soon after graduating from high school, having two children. This marked the beginning of a remarkable career that would take her to new heights.
Ruth's impressive discography includes the song "Streets of Gold" for the Disney feature "Oliver & Company" and a duet with Billy Vera for the soundtrack of "Iron Eagle II."
