Sheilagh Weymouth was born on March 17, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on St. Patrick's Day, which is the reason behind the Celtic spelling of her first name. She is the eldest child of Irish Catholic parents.
Her father, a salesman, passed away at the age of 56 due to his third heart attack, and Sheilagh inherited his ease with people. Unfortunately, she did not inherit his health genes. Her mother, a high school trombone player, managed the household until her marriage failed, and then worked as a legal secretary as a single mother of four children. In her retirement, she returned to her long-deferred oil painting. Sheilagh inherited her mother's work ethic and creative spirit.
Sheilagh's family moved frequently, and she attended five schools in the first grade alone, developing her accent and dialect skills by quickly adapting to each new environment. Her parents eventually settled back in their hometown of Philadelphia when she was 10, continuing to move frequently but within the same Philadelphia-accented neighborhoods.
Sheilagh's most enduring primary school memory was her four years at the endowed public school Philadelphia High School for Girls, where she spent time with rich and poor students from diverse backgrounds, preparing her for the eclectic world she would encounter later in life. She developed a love for reading and spent her childhood devouring books thanks to the Philadelphia public library.
Sheilagh spent a day in New York City at the age of 8 and felt it was the only place on earth that made sense. She has been a New Yorker for over half her life.
Sheilagh graduated from The Neighborhood Playhouse in 1986, where she studied with Sanford Meisner and Richard Pinter. She is a multiple award-winning leading lady and character actress who has worked in all media and has been repeatedly rehired by her directors. Some of her favorite memories include working with Jonathan Demme, André Gregory, and Wallace Shawn on the film "A Master Builder."
Sheilagh has also worked with Myam Bialik on the film "As They Made Us" and Michelle Danner on the upcoming film "Miranda's Victim." She thanks the Columbia University graduate directing students for providing her with clips for her first demo reel before she started receiving "real" work.
Sheilagh has had recurring roles on the hit network show "New Amsterdam" as Dr. Florence Brighton and co-star roles on the audience favorites "High Maintenance," "Broad City," and "Bull." Her stage appearances include her favorite theatre project, playing Sonia in Christopher Durang's "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike."
Sheilagh also works on voiceover projects, including looping and foreign-language dubbing, video commercials, and lifestyle print projects.
Sheilagh has had a diverse range of experiences, including riding camels, dancing with Maasai warriors, swimming with sea turtles and manta rays, and MC'ing her summer camp talent show. She has also spent time with shamans, laughed with the devil, and has been in love with videographer filmmaker Cayce Crown since 1987. She married him at City Hall on New Year's Eve 2015.
