Shimit Amin, a multifaceted filmmaker, was born in Kampala, Uganda, before relocating to the USA at a tender age. He soon discovered his passion for filmmaking and pursued it with unrelenting dedication.
His directorial debut, "Ab Tak Chappan" (56 and Counting),delved into the lives of a group of Mumbai cops who had earned a notorious reputation for their license to kill. This inaugural venture showcased Amin's ability to craft compelling stories that captivate audiences.
Amin's subsequent film, "Chak De India" (Let's go India!),was produced by the esteemed Yash Raj Films (YRF) and told the tale of a mismatched team of female hockey players, exploring themes of gender politics. The film received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success in India and globally, earning recognition from the Billie Jean King's women's sports foundation.
The director's third feature, "Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year", chronicled the journey of a young college graduate as he navigated the complexities of business ethics. This film was widely praised in India and became one of the most acclaimed releases of 2009.
In addition to his work in feature films, Amin has also directed episodes for the BBC series "A Suitable Boy". As an editor, he collaborated with Mira Nair on the award-winning film "The Reluctant Fundamentalist", which premiered at the 2012 Venice Film Festival.
Amin's expertise extends to the realm of advertising, where he has directed numerous campaigns. His work on the Glass Grand Prix award-winning campaign for Whisper/P&G's "Touch the Pickle" earned him widespread recognition. He also created an award-winning commercial for Ariel's "Share the load" campaign, which was praised by influential figures such as Sheryl Sandberg and Melinda Gates. Amin has worked with prominent brands like Amazon, Facebook, Whatsapp, Oreo, BMW, VISA, and Ford, producing successful campaigns that have left a lasting impact.
