Siegfried Rauch, a talented actor, grew up amidst the turmoil of the Second World War. Initially, he had aspirations to become an architect, but his interests shifted towards theater sciences and acting. Rauch's career in the entertainment industry began in 1958, with early engagements at various theater stages in Bremen, Munich, Hamburg, and Berlin.
He met his wife, Karin, in 1964, and they had two sons, Benedict and Jacob, together. The late 1960s marked a turning point in Rauch's career, as he gained recognition on television. His breakthrough roles in the 1967 German productions "The Monk with the Whip" and "Inspector X - Three Blue Panthers" paved the way for international productions in the 1970s.
One of his most notable roles was that of Captain Oskar Steiger in the 1970 film "Patton - Rebel in Uniform," which earned eight Oscars. Rauch's friendship with Steve McQueen, with whom he had a close bond, led to McQueen becoming the godfather of his first son. In the 1970s, Rauch starred in the successful television series "It doesn't always have to be caviar," based on the novel by Johannes Mario Simmel.
Throughout his career, Rauch has been known for his reliability and sincerity, qualities that have endeared him to audiences. In the 1980s, he appeared in the TV series "A Happy Family" alongside Maria Schell and Maria Furtwängler. In addition to his film work, Rauch regularly performed on the theater stage.
In the 1990s, Rauch took on the role of the responsible head of the mountain rescue service in the series "Wildbach." From 1999 to 2013, he played the main role of Captain "Fred Paulsen" in the ZDF series "Das Traumschiff." In 2016, Rauch was appointed ambassador for Bavarian Lake Shipping. He currently resides in a farmhouse in Obersöching, Bavaria, where he lives surrounded by nature.
Throughout his illustrious career, Rauch has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2017, he was honored with the Bavarian Homeland Medal from the Free State of Bavaria and the "Kaiser Star" from the Wilder Kaiser Tourism Association. Rauch's most recent role was as Dr. Roman Melchinger in the ZDF series "Der Bergdoktor," a position he held until his passing.
