Simon's initial professional endeavour was as a journalist for the esteemed 'Bridgwater Mercury' publication. However, his passion for the performing arts soon led him to pursue a career in drama, and he consequently left the newspaper to attend drama school.
Simon's acting career began to take shape in 1972 at the renowned Derby Playhouse, where he has since accumulated an impressive repertoire of hundreds of roles across various mediums, including theatre, film, television, and radio.
Simon made his television debut in the iconic British soap opera 'Coronation Street', where he played the character of Jim Potts, a conman attempting to sell a dubious shower to the perceptive Ena Sharples. Despite his efforts, Ena remained unimpressed.
Throughout his television career, Simon has primarily been associated with law enforcement roles, including Sir Robert Peel in a drama documentary and D.I. Shiner in the popular series 'Heartbeat', which he played from 1997 to 2005.
As Simon has grown older, he has continued to take on a range of characters, often portraying authoritative figures such as judges in various productions, including 'The Innocent', 'Heart', 'Emmerdale', 'Wire in the Blood', 'Poirot', and 'Eastenders'.
