Simon Sinn's life journey began in Hong Kong, where he was born, before he made the move to Canada in the early 1970s. He didn't start his acting career until he was 30 years old, having previously worked as a stock and commodity futures broker in Calgary.
To gain exposure and expand his clientele, Simon approached a community cable TV station and convinced them to add a financial segment to their weekly Chinese 1-hour live show. He wrote and read the segment, and after a screen test, the station liked him so much that they convinced him to get more involved in the show, including hosting, news reading, interviewing, training and acting in drama, and producing documentaries.
Simon's experience on the show allowed him to hone his skills and gain confidence, and he eventually decided to make the move to Toronto, known as "Hollywood North", in the late 1980s. There, he hooked up with talent agent Lorraine Wells, with whom he would work for over 30 years until her retirement in 2019.
Simon's big break came when he was cast in the feature film "Guilty As Sin", directed by the legendary Sidney Lumet. He also appeared in the feature film "Where The Truth Lies" and the short film "Virtual Hitman", both of which premiered at film festivals including Cannes.
Despite his passion for acting, Simon never gave up his career in financial trading, and he continued to trade and treat acting as a hobby. However, in 2017, he decided to quit trading and focus on acting full-time.
Simon's breakthrough role came when he was cast in the Netflix comedy movie "Murder Mystery", which took him to Montreal and Italy. He has since appeared in a number of other projects, including the web series "Streams Flow from a River", which premiered at the Canneseries film festival in 2023 and won several awards at the Valencia Indie Film Festival.
Throughout his career, Simon has never forgotten his humble beginnings and the importance of hard work and dedication. He credits his early days in community television in Calgary with giving him the skills and confidence he needed to succeed in the acting world.
