Heung-min Son, a renowned attacking footballer, was born on July 8, 1992, in Chuncheon, South Korea. As the son of Son Woong-Jung, a retired football player and manager who played for the South Korea national football 'B' team, he was destined for a life in the beautiful game.
In his teenage years, Son moved to Germany, where he developed his skills at Hamburger SV. He made his Bundesliga debut in October 2010, scoring against 1. FC Köln. He went on to make 78 appearances and score 20 times for Hamburg before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2013. During his time at BayArena, he helped the team qualify for the Champions League and made a total of 87 appearances, scoring 29 times.
In 2015, Son signed with Tottenham Hotspur and made his debut away at Sunderland in September. He scored twice on his home debut in a 3-1 Europa League victory over Qarabag.
Son's impressive form earned him the EA SPORTS 'Player of the Month' award in 2016/17, and he completed his first Spurs hat-trick in March. He ended the campaign with 21 goals from 47 appearances.
In November 2017, he became the highest-scoring Asian player in Premier League history. He then received the Asian Football Confederation 'International Player of the Year' award for a second time, having first won it in 2015, and was named Top South Korean Male Footballer at the Korea Football Association awards. He also helped his nation qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018 tournament, where he scored twice in the finals in Russia.
In August and early September 2018, Son captained South Korea to victory at the Asian Games in Indonesia.
The 2018/19 campaign saw Son hit the 20-goal mark for the second time in three seasons, despite missing game time through international duty with South Korea.
He then etched his name into club history by scoring the first ever first-team goal at Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium when he opened the scoring in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on April 3, 2019. Six nights later, he bagged the first European goal at Spurs' new home in the 1-0 Champions League quarter-final, first-leg win over Manchester City.
