Sonia was born and raised in the vibrant city of Hyderabad, Telangana, where she spent her formative years. After completing her education with a degree in computer applications, she embarked on a career as a software engineer in the IT industry, dedicating three years to her professional development.
However, her passion for acting eventually led her to step away from her technical pursuits and pursue a new path. Her big break came when she was spotted by renowned filmmaker Sekhar Kammula at an event, who was impressed by her performance in an audition and offered her a role in his upcoming film.
Thus, Sonia made her acting debut in the 2007 Telugu film Happy Days, where she played the character of Shravs. The film's success was immense, and it went on to win six awards at the 2008 Filmfare Awards South, including the Award for Best Supporting Actress for Sonia's outstanding performance, which earned her widespread critical acclaim.
Following her debut, Sonia continued to make a name for herself in the Telugu film industry, with her second film Vinayakudu, opposite Krishnudu, released in late 2008. The film proved to be a successful venture, and Sonia soon received offers from the Tamil film industry.
She made her Tamil debut in 2010 with the romantic-action film Paiyaa, directed by N. Lingusamy. The same year, she appeared in another Tamil film, Inidhu Inidhu, a remake of Happy Days, where she reprised her role from the original.
