Stephen Hunter's acting career has been a long and illustrious one, spanning both film and television. His major international big screen role was as the lovable and memorable Dwarf Bombur in all three of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit films.
Before landing this iconic role, Stephen began his career on New Zealand television, where he honed his craft and gained valuable experience. He then made the move to Australian television, landing the role of Sharpie on the Network Ten series Love My Way.
Stephen's talent and versatility soon led to a string of lead guest roles on various Australian and international television shows. He appeared on the Seven Network's All Saints, Nine's Rescue Special Op, HBO's The Leftovers, ABC's Janet King, STAN's Wolf Creek, Netflix's Wanted, BBC/Showtime's Wakefield, US ABC Studios' Reef Break, BBC & STAN's The Tourist, and most recently, Barons for ABC.
In addition to his dramatic roles, Stephen has also showcased his comedic talents on Nickelodeon's The GO Show, Foxtel's Spirited, the NZ series Fresh Eggs, ABC comedies Review with Miles Barlow, and series Rosehaven, and a lead role in the ABC animated series CJ the DJ.
On the big screen, Stephen has starred in a wide range of films, including the sci-fi action-adventure Blue World Order opposite Billy Zane & Jack Thompson, the thriller Escape from Pretoria alongside Daniel Radcliff, the Australian/Indian feature UNindian, the Australian/Chinese feature The Whistle Blower, the Australian/UK comedy Two Heads Creek, Killing Ground, and The Merger.
Most recently, Stephen appeared as the Fur God in Thor: Love & Thunder, a role that has cemented his status as a talented and versatile actor. He has also starred in the short film MESSiAH opposite David Gulpilil.
Stephen's most recent accolade was a nomination for Best Supporting Actor from the Film Critics Circle of Australia, for his portrayal of Doug in Ruby's Choice, starring alongside Jane Seymour, Jacqueline McKenzie & Coco Jac Gilles.
Stephen's upcoming projects include Heartbreak High for Netflix, and the US feature Children of the Corn, written and directed by Kurt Wimmer.
