Steve Rash's fascination with filmmaking began at the tender age of eight in Dallas, where he started making movies with his father's 8mm Kodak camera. As he grew older, his interest in film continued to flourish, particularly during his high school years when he worked as a press photographer, honing his skills and developing a passion for the craft.
Rash's academic pursuits led him to study Music at Texas A&M University and TV/Film at The University of Texas. Following his studies, he landed his first professional job as a camera operator at WFAA, a position that allowed him to rise through the production ranks with ABC Sports.
Throughout the 1970s, Rash photographed and directed seminal music videos for the TV series Sump'n Else, showcasing his talents to a wider audience. He also created the concept for the marathon music program that would eventually become MTV, featuring an impressive array of artists including Billy Joel, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles, Kenny Rogers, and The Who.
Rash's extensive TV credits include dozens of nationally syndicated musical variety programs, solidifying his reputation as a talented and versatile filmmaker.
Drawing upon his experience in music videos, Rash developed his first feature film in 1978, which critics hailed as "the definitive rock 'n roll movie." The Buddy Holly Story received three Academy Award nominations and took home the Oscar for Best Music.
Rash went on to direct a diverse range of films, including Under The Rainbow, Vanishing America, Can't Buy Me Love, Queens Logic, Son-In-Law, Eddie, Held Up, Good Advice, Crooked Arrows, and DVD sequels to Zenon, American Pie, Bring It On, and Road Trip.
Throughout his illustrious career, Steve Rash has consistently demonstrated his ability to adapt to new challenges and push the boundaries of his craft, earning him a reputation as a true pioneer in the world of filmmaking.
