Steven de Souza, a talented screenwriter, rose to fame with his films grossing over $2 billion at the box office. His journey began on an L.A. game show, where he won a car and a color TV, and subsequently gained the attention of several producers by leaving behind his writing samples.
This led to a contract with Universal Television as a story editor, and de Souza soon transitioned into producing, with his first credit being the 1982 film 48 Hrs. He went on to establish himself as a writer who could expertly balance action and humor in his scripts, as seen in films like Commando (1985),Die Hard (1988),and Die Hard 2 (1990).
De Souza's repertoire expanded to include science-fiction films such as V (1984),The Running Man (1987),and Judge Dredd (1995),as well as horror movies like Tales from the Crypt (1989) and Possessed (2000). He also ventured into fantasy with films like The Flintstones (1994),Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (1993),and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life (2003).
Throughout his career, de Souza has received numerous nominations for his work, including two nominations each for the Edgar Allan Poe award for best mystery screenplay and the Saturn award for best Science Fiction/Fantasy Film. In 2000, he was honored with the Norman Lear Award for Lifetime Achievement in writing.
In 2009, de Souza's web series Unknown Sender (2008) made history by becoming a triple honoree in the 13th annual Webby Awards, winning awards for best series, best writing, and Timothy Dalton's performance in If You're Seeing This Tape... (2008).
