Steven Wiig is a multifaceted individual with a passion for filmmaking, music, and acting.
Born and raised in the rural Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Wiig's creative inclinations were nurtured from a young age. He spent his childhood drawing, making music, and creating movies.
As a student at Northern Michigan University, Wiig studied art and psychology, simultaneously honing his skills as a musician, college radio DJ, and in-house artist at a local comic book store.
Wiig's journey took him to Minnesota, where he played music with his band The Martichora before relocating to Northern California. He eventually found himself working with the heavy metal band Metallica, initially as a drummer in their side-project Papa Wheelie and later as a writer, photographer, videographer, and personal assistant.
This incredible experience led to his appearance in the award-winning documentary "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster", showcasing his talents as a writer, photographer, and videographer.
Encouraged by fellow Marin County friends Robin Wright and Sean Penn, Wiig decided to pursue acting, landing a role in Penn's critically acclaimed film "Into the Wild". Penn himself praised Wiig, stating, "I came to know Steve Wiig as an actor by accident... He was just a natural so I said, 'What do you think of going pro?' I'm glad he did."
Wiig's subsequent roles included working alongside Penn in the biopic "Milk", as well as appearing in films directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Woody Allen, Tim Burton, and Jordan Peele.
In addition to his work in blockbuster movies like "Godzilla" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", Wiig has also starred in numerous independent films, including the dark and gritty "Dead Metaphors" and the comedic "Waiting For Wiig", which he was also asked to direct.
Currently residing in the San Francisco Bay Area with his family, Wiig continues to work on both sides of the camera. He has recently been busy recording with his new music project, Shrakys, who have just released their debut album "Anthems For The Damaged" on all streaming platforms.
