Biography

Stewart J. Zully is a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of skills and accomplishments. As an actor, he has accumulated over 100 credits in films, television, and theatre, showcasing his versatility and talent.

He has appeared in a variety of notable films, including Vice, Speed Kills, Wolf, For the Boys, Bonfire of the Vanities, Malcolm X, Fighting For Freedom, New In Town, and Push. On television, he has had recurring roles on The Sopranos and Bluebloods, as well as guest appearances on numerous other shows.

Zully's theatre credits include leading roles Off-Broadway, in Los Angeles, regionally, and in Toronto. He has also won an Emmy for Best Commercial of The Year for his work on Citibank's Identity Theft campaign in 2004.

As a writer and producer, Zully co-wrote and co-produced the feature film Perfect Opposites, which stars Piper Perabo, Aaron Paul, Joe Pantoliano, and Jennifer Tilly. The movie is based on the stage play A Piece of My Heart, which Zully directed at The Odyssey Theater in Los Angeles.

Zully has also written and directed several award-winning short films, including the front lines and Two Steps Back. His directing credits include the 2020 Ovation Nominated Nowhere On The Border, the 2017 Ovation recommended White Guy On The Bus, and Ovation nominated Martha.

He has directed premiering pieces by notable playwrights such as David Lindsay-Abaire, Romulus Linney, Peter Tolan, Tim Sims, Marco Ramirez, and Rolin Jones. Zully has also directed three new works at City Theatre's Summer Shorts Series at The Arsht Center in Miami.

As a producer, Zully founded the award-winning Theater 40 Annual One-Act Festival, which featured works by playwrights such as Arthur Miller, Horton Foote, Robert Schenkhan, Craig Lucas, and Jane Anderson. He produced the festival for six years, resulting in three plays being published by Samuel French and two plays airing on A&E.

Zully has also taught acting workshops throughout the US and Canada, including New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Miami, Orlando, Morristown, NJ, and Hudson, NY. He is a member of The Actor's Studio Playwright and Director's Unit in Los Angeles and is a graduate of The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (New York).

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Zully has also written a memoir, My Life In Yankee Stadium: 40 Years as a Vendor and Other Tales of Growing Up Somewhat Sane in the Bronx, which is available on Amazon and at stewartjzully.com.
