Born on January 26, 1955, in Taiwan under the name Suen Jian-yuan, Sun Chien, a renowned actor, began his life journey with a unique and challenging start. Losing both parents at a tender age, he was taken under the wing of his two devoted sisters, who played a pivotal role in his upbringing.
In 1976, a turning point in his life occurred when director Chang Cheh, a prominent figure in the film industry, was on the lookout for fresh talent in Taiwan to feature in his movie Chinatown Kid. Sun, a tae kwon do veteran, stood out among the numerous competitors and was selected for a supporting role in the film. This marked the beginning of his illustrious career in Hong Kong.
As one of the five Venoms, Sun made a name for himself in the industry, starring in numerous action and martial arts movies alongside director Chang Cheh. His contract with Shaw Brothers, a prominent film production company, lasted for eight years, during which time he became known as one of "Chang's Cohorts."
When Shaw Brothers shifted their focus to television projects in 1986, Sun joined forces with producer Tomas Tang's Filmark International, lending his talents to several subpar productions. In the early 1990s, he transitioned to working behind the scenes, taking on roles as an action director and assistant director on several films.
After a successful career spanning over two decades, Sun Chien decided to retire in 1992, leaving behind a legacy as a talented actor and dedicated professional in the film industry.
