Sylvia Hoeks is a Dutch actress and model who has been living and working in the United States for the past six years. Born in the Netherlands, she was scouted by Elite Models at the age of 14 and traveled the world to model. After completing high school, she attended the Maastricht Theatre Academy.
Following her graduation, Hoeks made her national breakthrough with the Jos Stelling film Duska in 2007, for which she won a Golden Calf award at the annual Dutch Film Festival. She quickly became in-demand for both stage and screen directors, starring in prestigious Dutch TV series such as Overspel, Bloedverwanten, and several theatre plays.
Within two years of graduating, Hoeks had the opportunity to play her first leading role as "Julia" in the feature film De storm in 2009, which became a major box office hit. The film was a national success and received several awards, including the award for "best actress" at the Festroia International Film Festival in Portugal.
In 2010, Hoeks starred as "Tirza" in the feature film Tirza, directed by Rudolf van den Berg, which won the "Best Film" award at the Festroia International Film Festival. The same year, she was presented at the Berlinale as a Shooting Star, a unique Pan European initiative that highlights Europe's best actors.
In 2011, Hoeks played the main character, "Johanna", in the feature film The Gang of Oss. Five years after her national breakthrough, she collaborated again with director Jos Stelling on his new feature film, The Girl and Death, in a Russian-German co-production (released in 2012).
In 2013, Hoeks played her first international role in The Best Offer, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore and starring alongside Geoffrey Rush. The film was a box office hit in several European countries and was nominated for Best Film at the 2013 European Film Awards.
In 2015, Hoeks starred in several film and TV productions in the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark and accepted the female lead in Luc Besson's new action thriller, American Renegades, which will have its international release in 2017.
In 2016, Hoeks starred in the new Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve. In 2017, she starred in 'Girl in the spider's web' as Camilla Salander.
In 2018, Hoeks took on the role of 'Queen Kane' in Apple TV show 'See', which filmed its second season in 2020. In 2020, she starred next to August Diehl in World War 2 movie 'Plan A'.
In 2020, Hoeks is co-producing a limited series about erotic movie icon "Sylvia Kristel" together with Michael Roskam (Bullhead and The Drop). In 2021, she continues to star in season 3 of the Apple TV show 'See'.
