Sylvia Lewis, a talented performer, was born in York, Pennsylvania, and began her journey in the entertainment industry as a young child in Baltimore, Maryland, during the twilight days of vaudeville.
As a scholarship student at the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music, she received her first classical training in dance, voice, and piano, laying the foundation for her future success.
At the tender age of 12, Sylvia made the bold move to Hollywood, where she continued her studies and secured roles in notable films such as Singin' in the Rain (1952) and Red Garters (1954) as a dancer, and later in Drums of Tahiti (1953) as an actress.
As her career progressed, she added choreography to her impressive list of credits, which began during her tenure as a regular featured character on the popular TV series Where's Raymond? (1953),starring the legendary Ray Bolger, and featuring 60 episodes on ABC.
Sylvia's extensive television credits include choreographing dozens of shows, including Who's the Boss? (1984) and Married... with Children (1987),as well as guest appearances on beloved series such as The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961),The Beverly Hillbillies (1962),and Gomer Pyle: USMC (1964).
Her remarkable stage career on both coasts, spanning over 50 years, cemented her reputation as a triple-threat performer. Throughout her illustrious career, Sylvia has worked tirelessly in theater, nightclubs, films, and television, earning a reputation as a dedicated and versatile artist.
Today, Sylvia resides in Thousand Oaks, California, with her husband of 30 years, attorney Philip Gunning. She is also the proud mother of a daughter, Catherine, from her early marriage to director John Rich.
