Sylvia Stewart's journey in the entertainment industry began with her curiosity and passion for film and TV, leading her to an open call for background performers during her final year of high school. This marked the start of her multidisciplinary artistic career, as she has since earned triple union carding (SAG-AFTRA, ACTRA, UDA).
As a former gymnast with intensive practice from the age of six, Sylvia was given the opportunity to utilize her physical talents by Hollywood stunt coordinator Jeff Dashnaw on the series Soldier of Fortune, Inc. in 1997. Her love for action and desire to convey powerful emotions through film and TV led to more opportunities as an actress, alongside notable stars such as Vanessa Williams and Wesley Snipes, and as a stunt double in films like The Day After Tomorrow and Helix.
Sylvia has benefited greatly from her acting classes with various teachers, including a two-year study at Carter Thor East (now Straeon Acting Studios) under the guidance of Jock MacDonald. She has had the privilege of working on projects led by visionary directors, such as Yves Simoneau, Roland Emmerich, Steven A. Adelson, François Girard, Jim Kaufman, Kari Skogland, Christian Duguay, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and Darren Aronofsky, among others.
To give back to her local artistic community, Sylvia is the administrator of her Facebook group, Stewart Creative Group, which shares public casting information, relevant articles about international creatives, and serves as a platform for showcasing local artistic endeavors. She has also served on the ACTRA Montreal council, as Chair of the ACTRA Montreal Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and sat on the ACTRA Montreal Stunt committee from 2018 to 2020.
In addition to her acting pursuits, Sylvia enjoys writing, developing, and directing her own documentary and live-action short films/music videos. Her music video, Despite You, won the Music Video Category at the 2014 Original iPhone Film festival. With a talent for live improv, stand-up comedy, drama, and the stamina to work long hours, Sylvia continues to grow and learn as a multidisciplinary artist, seeking to be of benefit to the entertainment industry.
