Terry Menefee Gau was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, where her journey in the performing arts began at a tender age of four. She made her stage debut in a flannel-board production of "The Nativity," introducing the character Caesar Augustus to the audience. As she grew older, Terry became an integral part of her high school drama club, participating in numerous performances and honing her acting skills.
After completing her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Terry embarked on a career in engineering and human resources at a local electric company. However, she eventually found herself drawn to the world of theology, enrolling in Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, where she earned her Masters of Divinity and Masters of Arts in Christian Education, with a focus on Narrative and Film Theology. During her time at seminary, Terry rediscovered her passion for acting and expanded her skills to include on-camera work.
Terry is ordained in the Baptist tradition, although she is currently a member of the Episcopal Church due to their stance on inclusivity. In addition to her work as an actress and director, Terry is a prolific writer, with a number of scripts under her belt. She is a proud member of the Virginia Screenwriters Forum and has won or placed in several screenwriting competitions, including First Place for TV Drama in the Cannes Screenwriting Contest for her TV Pilot, "Unplugged." Terry also writes sermons, essays, and academic works, which can be found on her blog, "A Rage for Explaining."
Moreover, Terry co-produces the podcast "Outlander Soul" with her friend and colleague Dr. Jayme Reaves. This podcast provides a unique perspective on the "Outlander" book and television series, exploring its themes through a theological, religious, and spiritual lens.
