Tom Brady was born on August 3, 1977, in San Mateo, California, to Galynn Patricia (Johnson) and Thomas Edward Brady, who owns a financial planning business. His father, Thomas Edward Brady, is of Irish descent, while his mother, Galynn Patricia (Johnson),has Norwegian-Swedish and Polish ancestry.
Tom Brady attended Junipero Serra High School, the same institution that produced Barry Bonds, a renowned baseball player for the San Francisco Giants. After completing his high school education, Brady moved on to the University of Michigan, where he spent four years from 1995 to 1999.
During his time at the University of Michigan, Brady shared the starting quarterback position with Drew Henson in 1998 and 1999. Despite this, he managed to compile an impressive 20-5 record over those two years, including a 2-0 record in bowl games.
The New England Patriots selected Brady in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, making him the 199th overall pick. Initially, he served as a fourth-string quarterback behind Drew Bledsoe, John Friesz, and Michael Bishop. However, his fortunes changed in 2001 when Bledsoe suffered a near life-threatening injury during a game against the New York Jets.
Brady replaced Bledsoe as the starting quarterback and has since started every Patriots game at the position. Under his leadership, the Patriots went on to win Super Bowl XXXVI, defeating the St. Louis Rams 20-17.
Brady's success continued in the following seasons, leading the Patriots to one of the greatest seasons in NFL history in 2003. The team won every remaining regular season and playoff game, culminating in a 32-29 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
In 2004, Brady led the Patriots to another Super Bowl appearance, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX. He was named the Super Bowl MVP for the second time in his career, becoming one of only four players in NFL history to achieve this feat.
Tom Brady is married to supermodel Gisele Bündchen and has two children with her. His brother-in-law is professional baseball player Kevin Youkilis, who is married to Tom's sister, Julie.
