Tommy Ansah emerged as one of the pioneering Black British TV and film actors of the early 1960s, initially gaining recognition through his appearances in prominent UK television shows such as 'Sergeant Cork', 'The Troubleshooters', and 'Man In A Suitcase'. Concurrently, he honed his craft through theatrical performances in esteemed productions like Wole Soyinka's 'The Lion And The Jewel' at the Royal Court Theatre and Robert Lowell's 'Benito Cereno' at the Mermaid Theatre.
Ansah's filmography boasts a range of critically acclaimed movies, including 'The Bushbaby', 'Two Gentlemen Sharing', and '10 Rillington Place', which eventually led to him securing lead roles in 'His Majesty's Sergeant' and the award-winning 'Heritage Africa'.
Throughout the latter part of his career, Ansah has resided in the United States, where he has held esteemed positions as a Project Consultant and Lecturer at renowned institutions such as the Smithsonian, Howard University, and Caltech. Drawing from his multifaceted background as a musician and songwriter, Ansah co-founded the Afro-Pop group Osibisa and has since released several solo albums, as well as collaborated with luminaries like the renowned Jazz legend Hamiet Bluiett.
