Tony Giglio, a renowned Writer-Director, has built a successful career in Hollywood, rising from a humble Production Assistant to become one of the most versatile professionals in the industry.
Giglio's journey began with a Production Assistant role on the film Quick & The Dead. As a huge fan of The Evil Dead, he wrote a letter to director Sam Raimi before graduating college, seeking employment with him. To his surprise, Raimi responded, inviting him to relocate to LA and work with him. Giglio moved to California, reconnected with Raimi's office, and started as an office Production Assistant, later serving as a Set Production Assistant, Location Production Assistant, and Sam Raimi's Production Assistant on the production in Arizona.
Tony's most recent project was writing and directing Universal's 1440 reboot of "Doom", entitled "Doom: Annihilation", based on the popular video games. The film's success has led to a sequel in the works, with Giglio set to return as writer and director.
He has also directed "S.W.A.T.: Under Siege", produced by Neal Moritz, starring Adrianne Palicki, Michael Jai White, and released in August 2017.
Giglio wrote, produced, and directed Sony Crackle's first-ever made-for-new-media feature film, "Extraction", starring Danny Glover, Vinnie Jones, Sean Astin, Falk Hentschel, and Jon Foo. The film won him a Best Action Director award in 2013 and was nominated for his screenplay at the 2013 Webby Awards.
Giglio has also directed 2nd Unit on Resident Evil: Afterlife for Screen Gems/Constantin/Impact Pictures, which opened at number one in the worldwide box office in September 2010.
He was hired by Universal Pictures to pen Death Race 2, a prequel to 2008's Death Race, while simultaneously directing 2nd Unit on Afterlife. The success of Death Race 2 led to the production of Death Race: Inferno, with Giglio again returning as screenwriter. Death Race has become one of Universal's biggest successes, with the fourth film in the franchise, Death Race: Beyond Anarchy, another penned by Giglio, released in September 2018.
In 2007, Giglio directed Timber Falls, a horror-dark comedy shot in Romania, which opened theatrically on December 7, 2007, to extremely positive reviews.
In 2005, he wrote and directed the action-thriller Chaos, starring Jason Statham, Ryan Phillippe, and Wesley Snipes, which suffered massive financial problems, resulting in several shutdowns during prep and production.
In 2004, Giglio co-wrote and directed the World War II drama, In Enemy Hands, starring Academy Award-nominated actor William H. Macy, Til Schweiger, Clark Gregg, Scott Caan, Thomas Kretschmann, Lauren Holly, Ian Somerhalder, and Jeremy Sisto. The film was released by Lion's Gate in the U.S. in 2004.
Tony graduated from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993. He is a proud member of the DGA, WGA, and SAG and holds citizenship in good standing status with the United States, Italy, and Canada.
When not on location directing, Tony Giglio resides in Georgia with his wife and daughter.
