Trina McGee, a multifaceted artist, was born in the Bronx, New York, to a classical pianist mother and a Haitian photographer/revolutionist father. Although her father was absent from the family unit, his political legacy continued to shape Trina's life.
Growing up, Trina learned to play piano, write songs, and showed an interest in acting, creative writing, and political issues. She attended the prestigious Manhattan Country School, founded in 1968, where children of all races and financial backgrounds learned and competed on an equal playing field.
After attending Howard University for two years, Trina decided to pursue music and was convinced she could make it when a song she wrote became #1 on a local Minneapolis station. She was soon approached by a movie producer who thought her unique physical appearance could procure work as an actress.
Trina's background in music came in handy when she auditioned for a television show based on 'The Monkees' phenomenon, but with a girl group in place. Although Quincy Jones' vision never met fruition, the assistance she received from him in starting a life in California has been crucial to her development as an artist.
During the next phase of her life, Trina got married, did numerous sitcoms and dramatic television guest spots, an action movie with Sylvester Stallone, and worked with Mike Nichols in The Birdcage. She also had three children, in-between.
Trina portrayed a teenager on the sitcom Boy Meets World, which was also one of the first interracial relationships portrayed by teenagers on television. When she became a single mom at the end of her "Boy Meets World" run, she focused on repairing her family unit and took on a slew of commercial work.
As a survivor, Trina is currently a consistent entity in the entertainment field, recognized daily wherever she goes, especially by kids 5-17, who grew up on her work. She is also finding herself as a writer and currently has several television sitcoms in development.
Trina now lives in the San Fernando Valley with her three kids and enjoys painting and putting on plays with her talented children in her spare time.
