Biography

Born in Moscow, the cradle of artistic expression, where the world of acting was an integral part of his family's fabric, weaving a tapestry of creativity that had been generations in the making. The family's connection to the stage dates back to his grandfather, Nikolai Livanov, a talented performer who began his career in provincial theaters, before transitioning to metropolitan stages, adopting the stage name Izvolsky, a pseudonym that would become synonymous with excellence. His father, Boris Nikolaevich Livanov, was an accomplished actor, with a repertoire of approximately 40 roles at the esteemed Art Theater and 30 in cinema, his performances leaving a lasting impression on audiences and critics alike. The Livanov household was often a hub of activity, filled with the presence of notable figures, including the illustrious Kachalov, the celebrated poet Pasternak, the renowned film director Dovzhenko, the iconic actor Cherkasov, the innovative director Tarkhanov, and the acclaimed filmmaker Konchalovsky, all of whom contributed to a rich cultural landscape that nurtured his artistic development.

Vladimir Livanov's educational journey commenced at the esteemed men's school number 170, laying the foundation for his future academic pursuits. Subsequently, he relocated to the Moscow secondary art school, where he spent four formative years from 1950 to 1954, refining his artistic talents and cultivating a passion for the performing arts.

Upon completing his secondary education, Livanov proceeded to the prestigious B.V.Schukin Theater School, a renowned institution that would serve as a crucible for his artistic growth. During his tenure at the school, he not only honed his acting skills but also explored the realm of directing, experimenting with various techniques and styles.

One of Livanov's most notable directorial endeavors was a production of Yuri Olesha's "Three Fat Men" on the studio stage, a project that showcased his versatility and creativity as a director. What's more, he designed the set for the production himself, demonstrating his multifaceted talents and ability to excel in various aspects of the theatrical arts.

The music for the play was composed by none other than his classmate and schoolmate, Gennady Gladkov, a talented musician who would go on to become a renowned composer and collaborate with Livanov on numerous projects in film, theater, and animation. This early collaboration between the two artists would lay the groundwork for a long and fruitful partnership, one that would yield a wide range of creative and innovative works in the years to come.
