Venus DeMilo Thomas, a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of talents, is preparing to tackle her next documentary film as director, producer, and writer. This is not a daunting task for Venus, as she has been in the entertainment industry since the age of four, starting her career in front of the camera.
Born into a family of actors, Venus began her journey in the entertainment industry early on. She appeared in several television shows, including "Salute Your Shorts," "The Bold & the Beautiful," "Family Matters," "My So-Called Life," and "Sister, Sister." Her film credits include the hit movie "Life," starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.
While attending Loyola Marymount University, Venus began to explore her interest in filmmaking, majoring in film production with a minor in Africana studies. This led her to develop a passion for writing and producing, which she pursued further by working at her family's talent agency, Thomas Talent Agency.
Venus's breakthrough came with her acclaimed short film "Did I Wake You?," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001. The film was an unflinching look at the lives of African-American teenagers, and its success convinced Venus that she was on the right path.
As a trailer producer, Venus worked with renowned directors such as Michael Bay, JJ Abrams, and Gore Verbinski. This experience further solidified her passion for storytelling and the art of crafting words and images into something meaningful.
With her acting and directing/producing careers in full swing, Venus is now preparing to combine her talents with the post-production of her next documentary film, El Lay. She is also set to appear in her first animated role as Tina in Netflix's reboot of "Good Times" and will be attending Splat Con in October 2024.
In addition to her film work, Venus has taken up producing and narrating audiobooks. This year, she will be releasing three new audiobooks, including "And Then They Were Gone," "Daily Affirmations for Black Women," and "Retire a Millionaire - Financial Independence Retire Early," which can be found on Audible and Amazon.
Despite her many accomplishments, Venus remains humble and grounded, crediting her family and her passion for the arts for her success. As she continues to navigate the demands of both acting and producing, Venus is confident that her unique blend of talents will allow her to excel in both roles.
