Yugo Saso was born in Shiga, Japan, and later relocated to Vancouver, Canada, at the age of 18, where he pursued his passion for acting by studying at the Gastown Actors Studio and actively participating in local theatre productions and independent film projects.
In 1998, Yugo made the move to Taiwan, where he resided for approximately one and a half years before seizing an opportunity to play a leading role in the feature film "To End All Wars" alongside renowned actors Robert Carlyle and Kiefer Sutherland in the year 2000.
Over the next four years, Yugo collaborated with former Imperial Army translator Takashi Nagase, who served as the inspiration for his role in "To End All Wars," and embarked on a journey to Thailand, Myanmar, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea to participate in memorial services, search for the remains of war dead, and engage in peace activities to confront the harsh realities of post-war issues.
In 2007, Yugo auditioned for the film "United Red Army" directed by Koji Wakamatsu and landed the role of Koichi Teraoka, who was executed during the Asama-Sanso Incident. Yugo was fortunate enough to form a connection with Teraoka's mother, who shared with him the family's perspective on the incident, which was previously unknown to the public.
In 2009, the short film "Jitensha," in which Yugo played the lead role, was officially selected by the 66th Venice International Film Festival of Corto Cortissimo, and Yugo received the Award for Best Actor at the 5th SAPPORO Short Fest.
In 2011, the director and writer of "Jitensha" reunited with Yugo to work on the upcoming short film "Persimmon."
