Beyond the Gates of Splendor background

Beyond the Gates of Splendor

In the 1950s, a devastating incident occurs when a group of five young missionaries are brutally killed by a Native American tribe. The tragedy sparks a heroic journey to make amends and restore justice.

In the Amazon basin of Ecuador, a violent and isolated tribe, the Waodani, is confronted by five North American families. Tragically, all five men are killed, including Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming, and Ed McCully. Despite this, Elisabeth Elliot, the widow of one of the men, and Rachel Saint, the sister of another, decide to live among the Waodani. Later, Steve Saint, the son of one of the slain men, moves his family to live with the same Waodani family that took his father's life.
