Tommy Gibbs, a young boy from the ghetto, aspires to become a powerful criminal, fueled by a desire for revenge against the corrupt cop who broke his leg. As he rises to power in Harlem, he sees power as the solution to his anger and frustration with the racist society around him. He attracts the attention of a Mafia family by performing a hit on a contract, and despite initial reluctance, he's accepted into the family. However, his growing autonomy and aggression ultimately lead to a gang war.
