A disenchanted millionaire escapes the emptiness of their luxurious existence by taking on short-term jobs on oil rigs, surrounded by brief connections and a sense of aimlessness.
Robert Dupea, a former concert pianist, now toils in the oil fields, while his partner Rayette works as a waitress. When his ailing father summons him, Robert sets off with Rayette to Washington, only to be faced with his estranged, high-society family.
