Graham's younger brother Alastair Winslow, a professor at Rockwell College, goes missing in Ithaca, New York. A bullet casing and Al's blood are found at his house, and a threatening note is discovered on his office door. The Winslow family, including Amy, Travis, and Sheriff Harry Ridgeway, team up to investigate Al's disappearance. They uncover that Al was involved in several family situations, including his work family, where he had issues with his ex-wife and colleagues, and his pro bono tutoring of a student whose father is a suspected mob boss. Al was also doing consulting work on the history of Kent Lake Lodge, where the family is staying, but only a few people knew about it.
