Lionel Meadows, a crooked garage owner in London, makes a living by selling stolen cars, relying on a team of mechanics and teenage thieves to obtain them. Meanwhile, John Cummings, a cosmetics salesman, is struggling to meet his sales targets and loses his essential 1959 Ford Anglia to young thief Tommy Towers, who delivers it to Meadows' chop-shop. As John tries to recover his stolen car, he becomes increasingly desperate and impatient, eventually deciding to investigate the matter himself, putting him on a collision course with Meadows and his gang.
