A poisonous weed infects the grazing lands, prompting misguided ranchers to burn the infected areas, making the situation worse. Gene Autry and his friend Frog Millhouse are sent to investigate, but they face strong opposition and are mistakenly accused of being bank robbers after finding cash from a crashed plane. Despite the challenges, Gene convinces the ranchers to use chemical spraying to eradicate the weed, while also winning the heart of the rancher's daughter and saving the cattle from a stampede.
