In the small town of North Salem, Oregon, three high school students - Diwata, Solomon, and Howie - unite through their shared frustrations with the school board's ignorance and prejudice. Diwata's passion for school plays is stifled by censorship, Solomon's articles are consistently rejected, and Howie's request for a gay club is met with rejection from three out of five board members. As they form a Speech and Debate club, they find solace in their newfound friendship and learn to harness their voices to overcome the obstacles in their path.
