In the movie, a Russian army lieutenant named Vladimir Dubrouvsky is pursued by the Czarina after rejecting her advances. He seeks revenge against Kyrilla Troekouroff, who has taken his family's lands, and becomes the outlaw known as The Black Eagle. Disguised as a French instructor, Vladimir infiltrates the Troekouroff household and falls in love with Kyrilla's daughter Mascha, complicating his original mission.
