In 1830, on the island of Calvados, Manuela Alva dreams of falling in love with the legendary pirate "Macoco". Her aunt and uncle, seeking wealth, force her to marry Don Pedro, a wealthy but arrogant man. Before the wedding, Manuela meets a traveling circus troupe and becomes infatuated with the charming Serafin. He discovers her secret love for Macoco and uses a trick to woo her, pretending to be the pirate. As Macoco, Serafin convinces everyone, including Manuela, that he is the real pirate. However, the authorities and Spanish Viceroy believe him to be a wanted pirate, and he is arrested and sentenced to death.
