New England farmer Jane Falbury agrees to let a group of actors use her barn as a theater, provided they help with farm chores in return. As rehearsals begin, Jane finds herself drawn to the show's director, Joe Ross, who is secretly engaged to the lead actress, Abigail, her sister.
