In the ruins of the Romanov palace, a teenage girl named Anastasia flees the Secret Police with her only remaining family - four magical instruments she can't remember her family by. On a freight train, Anastasia discovers Vladimir Ichonovitch, a former general, hiding in a suitcase. Ichonovitch believes Anastasia is trying to claim the Romanov throne and its fortune, but she's unaware of his assumption and gets entangled in his plan, learning about her family's history and being dressed up by him.
