Toxic waste stored on a ship in Odessa is waiting to dock, while Frank Martin, a driver for hire, turns down a job in Marseilles and refers it to a friend. Later, the friend, wounded and dying, crashes his car into Frank's home, leaving a young woman, Valentina, in the backseat.
