In the 1960s, Baltimore is the setting for a story about Maddie Schwartz, a journalist who becomes embroiled in an unsolved murder case and decides to reinvent herself as an investigative reporter. Along the way, she crosses paths with Cleo Sherwood, a woman juggling multiple jobs, motherhood, and her dedication to the Black progressive movement in Baltimore.
