A con man, Tom Turner, is forced to choose between prison and a legitimate job after attempting to scam undercover cops. He takes a job at the post office's Dead Letter Office, where he starts answering mail addressed to God, accidentally sending money to those who wrote. This inspires his coworkers to join in, helping people by responding to "God" mail.
